I don't visit during races though either. I also prove to listen to podcasts and audiobooks when I run, makes other miles fly by. Indoors.....well, that's something else entirely. The sheer boredom of the dreadmill requires music to make it bearable. Part of the fun in racing is the interactions with those sharing the road with you.....headphones make that impossible. There's probably no way around that, but I feel like I keep having to tell people, "I was really 15 minutes faster!" But...I also don't like having a mixed finish. Trying to reel in a 1/2 while dodging perky 5kers is not my ideal finish line situation.
