GARMIN and great news!!

I finally broke down and bought a Garmin last week.  I've thought about it for over a year now, researched it, stalked their website and finally made the purchase last week.  I decided on the Garmin Forerunner 305.  It wasn't expected to arrive until next week, but look what I found when I came home from work tonight:
I bought in under my husband's amazon account, so it came addressed to him.  I forgot to mention it to him, so he opened up the box so excited and was let down when he realized it was my new toy!  I can't wait to use it!  It has to charge for 3 hours before I can use it, so I won't be able to use it until tomorrow :(

This might actually get me up for an early morning run, even though I was planning on heading into the office earlier than normal tomorrow.   Hmmm, we'll see how that goes.
I'm so excited to finally have a gps for running especially now that I'm starting my MARATHON TRAINING PLAN next week!  That's right, I'm planning to run my FIRST marathon this October at the Detroit Free Press Marathon

I'm so excited for this race, my new garmin, my new training plan, AND I'm going to join the local Running Fit's 501 running class.  This will get me in a group of runners for weekday runs and a long run on Saturdays in just a couple weeks.  I can't wait.  I'm finally proud to be a runner and have confidence in myself that I can actually do it!!
Thank you friends, bloggers, and new garmin for helping me find my way to this amazing road!  Any tips you may have on using your garmin would be appreciated.  I've already read the book cover to cover, but we'll see how it works in real life :)

  1. I have the same one and love it! It's really pretty easy to use for the most part. Just remember to set up your laps to 1 mile (or whatever you want) or your entire run will be at one pace. I like having an idea about how I did on each mile. Congrats on the new toy!

  2. Wowza!!! Exciting news!!! I have a 305 and love it, although the only two features I really use are the autolap every mile (best idea EVER) and the interval workouts. You'll LOVE it!

And good luck with marathon training - I'm looking forward to reading about it!

  3. love my garmin. there are a group of us on the eastside (detroit, pointes, st.claire shores) that run together. A few of us are training for our first full marathon which is also the freep. Look for GP Runners on facebook. There are always people looking to meet up.

  6. Nice!! Getting a Garmin really makes you feel official, huh? I was like that when I got my first Garmin, super pumped!

And congrats on the marathon too!!! The training is tough, and sometimes it's tough to stay dedicated and motivated but I know you can hurdle all those obstacles. It's not easy but then again, it wouldn't be so rewarding if it was easy.
